ANG THONG (Wat Muang)

Wat Muang is the home of The Big Buddha, also known as Phra Buddha Maha Nawamin and Mahaminh Sakayamunee Visejchaicharn, which is the tallest Buddha statue in Thailand and the 9th tallest in the world.
Located in the monastery of Wat Muang in the province of Ang Thong, this statue has a height of 92 m and a width of 63 m.
Construction began in 1990 and was completed in 2008. It is painted in gold and made of cement.
Ang Thong is one of the central provinces (changwat) of Thailand. The name means "bowl of gold", an allusion to the importance of Ang Thong's agriculture. The neighboring provinces are (from the north in a clockwise direction) are Sing Buri, Lopburi, Ayutthaya and Suphanburi. Ang Thong's native crafts include patterned dolls, refractory bricks and wickerwork.
